About mE Continued:
I have both a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Virginia. I've learned over my lifetime to believe in facts and science. I have no patience with science deniers afflicted with NDD (Nature Deficit Disorder) who think the Earth is flat, that the planet is not getting warmer at an alarming rate, and that dinosaurs lived alongside humans 6000 years ago. My tolerance tank for the inane espousings of lizard brains is now about empty.
Shields up Scotty! At least that's part of the plan, and a cornerstone of one of my fundamental truths.
The intent of this blog has changed. To be sure, in most respects this site is my shrine: you have access to my writings, my personal thoughts, my photos, all kinds of stuff. I’m proud of my accomplishments, and obviously want to be heard. I get genuine satisfaction having a repository of an important chunk of my world available for people to see and explore.
But I’m now much less driven to try to have an impact on the way people think about things by writing new posts; I’ve realized that I kept repeating myself about the same topics. And honestly, the vast majority of the the takeaways of my posts were previously 'figured out' several years ago when I wrote my last two books. According to the latest stats, Facebook users are now updating their status and sharing photos much less than they have in the past. I'm no different.
Also, I have been startled at just how hard it is to be heard, beyond Facebook friends and family, in today's world. There is so much noise, so much content, thanks to the Internet, with ever-shrinking attention spans. I'm not sure how you get genuine satisfaction being heard in the world today anymore. Particularly if you're just getting started. It's a very, very hard thing to do now (again, extending beyond your FB friends and family in the open ecosystem). For me, it's time to hand off the baton. At least while I take a sabbatical!
One exception to this pullback: I have added a tab called Data, which is my way of making a point and debunking false equivalences, usually to my Republican friends and giving them an opportunity to see or read something substantive and truly fair and balanced that they will never see on Fox News.
