Highlight of this morning’s walk through the front fields: a hornets nest, constructed just a few inches off the ground. No wonder it seemed dormant - apparently only the fertilized queens survive over winter. And then it starts all over again in the Spring, when the queens begin to look for a suitable place to build their new nests and lay eggs.
